A full pane of 100 Masaryk stamps was produced from a block of 25 stamps. This means that all variations in the original block are repeated four times on both plates. Research
has demonstrated that this 25-stamp block was constructed using two different black prints, designated as Types I and II. In addition, ten flaws in the negative of this block
were also reproduced four time on each plate. And, of course, each stamp bears its own unique and identifiable flaws.
This arrangement is demonstrated by the schematic below which illustrates a pane of 100 stamps divided into four 25-stamps blocks. Note that the layout of the block of 25 stamps outlined in red in the upper right quarter is repeated in the other three quarters of the plate. Type I stamps are
represented by white blocks, Type II by yellow. Each of the negative flaws are identified by a letter A-J. For Plate II only, the asterisk in position 80 represents the short base
on the numeral 2 variation.
The Monografie, Díl II, reports that on at least one plate, the etched upper quarter of 25 stamps was at a different height with respect to the other
three quarters, thus a plate produced 25 stamps with thin or faint numerals and 75 stamps with thick or bold numerals. It also states that position 80 contained stamps with a short
base on the numeral 2. POFIS, on the other hand, indicates the latter claim was true only for plate II and states that the former claim has been dropped from
present-day descriptions of the stamps.
